Born in Ottawa and based in Kjipuktuk (Halifax, Nova Scotia), Kate Solar is a filmmaker working in first-person documentary and experimental film. Her work investigates the boundaries between image and text, landscape and archive.
Solar was the winner of the 2023 NSCAD Student Art Award. Her films have screened locally and internationally. In 2023, she was awarded a scholarship to attend a three-week artistic retreat on the island of Hydra, Greece. After the trip, she and the other three participants staged palimpsestos, an exhibition of responsive work, at NSCAD's Port Loggia gallery.
