Absent Currents (installation, 2025)
Freshwater Brook flowed across Kuowa’qamikt (the Halifax Peninsula) until the late Victorian era, when it was buried underground. Absent Currents is a video installation work that reconstructs this phantom landmark through the textual sediments it left behind.
Natural-dyed fabric and eco-processed 16mm film connect these archival flickers with the material traces of the brook that remain. What does it mean to lose a body of water, and in what ways are we still navigating the landscapes we’ve cast off?
