Ottawa's urban boundary, which specifies where developers can build and still access city services, is very contentious. In 2020, Ottawa City Council voted to expand the boundary again, despite the opposition of many residents who argued that this would increase Ottawa's rampant urban sprawl.
This boundary line is currently in an in-between state; it will be expanding by over 1000 hectares, but the specifics have not yet been decided. Some of the places on the line I visited and photographed, places where there was a stark divide between old and new, will be disappearing soon—sucked into the relentless march of suburbia.
